Tanya McDonald is the founder and editor of the pocket-sized haiku journal, Kingfisher, now in its 7th year (kingfisherjournal.com). Her own haiku, haibun, rengay, and tanka have appeared in numerous journals and anthologies since 2008. Over the years, she has co-edited several Haiku Northwest anthologies and Seabeck anthologies, as well as assisting with other publications. In 2019, she edited the Haiku Society of America’s annual members’ anthology, A Moment’s Longing, which prepared her for the launch of Kingfisher in 2020.

She lived in the Seattle area for fifteen years and was an active member of Haiku Northwest, serving as Washington’s regional coordinator for the HSA for three years and serving on the Haiku Northwest board in various capacities. In 2022, she and her husband moved back to Oregon to be closer to family. For the past three years, she has served as Oregon’s regional coordinator for the HSA, hosting monthly Zoom meetings and organizing the annual summer meeting, the latest of which was held in Newport, Oregon. She enjoys facilitating gatherings of haiku poets, as well as teaching haiku workshops. A native Oregonian and an active member of the Portland Haiku Group, she is frequently distracted by birds, interesting rocks, and guitars. tanyamc1375@gmail.com
